Carried by the light

A tribute to the Palace Church at the Royal Palace in Stockholm

This unique painting has its origins in a fascinating restoration experience. During my internship at a conservation company in 1999, I had the privilege of working on the restoration of the Palace Church at the Royal Palace in the Old Town, a room adorned with magnificent ceiling paintings from a bygone era.

Inspired by these beautiful motifs, I photographed a detail of the angel paintings and recreated it using traditional techniques. I drew the motif in a careful grid pattern and painted it in oil on canvas. To capture the feel of the historical originals, I cracked and patinated the surface, giving the work an authentic, timeless character.

even when you yourself have closed your eyes.

You are never alone in the transition.
Never alone in the change.

Like the child in your arms
you will be held through every shift
through each new step
through every rebirth.

Everything happens in a field of caution.

Everything happens in light.
